Lead Sheets

The purpose of a lead sheet is to communicate your music either to other performers or to potential publishers. There are three elements to a lead sheet – Chord symbols, Melody on a single staff and lyrics.
When supplying leadsheets for a studio session the correct combinations of these are required for each individual musician who is taking part. It pays to ask each musician for their particular requirements. For instance the drummer may want the song broken down into sections (A, B, A, B, C, B) with notes on the rhythm/feel required, while the Keyboardist wants full a full score including lyrics.  Musicians make their own notes on these sheets as well so leaving plenty of space is appreciated by the recipients.
